Under this scheme, insurance is provided for the crops such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, pepper, pineapple, papaya and banana which are grown commercially and for export purposes in Sri Lanka.
Other crop insurance schemes cover risks such as natural calamities, diseases and pests, insect damage and wild elephant damage.

In addition to the above-mentioned crops, when applying for the insurance for non-avian crops for each area, insurance can be obtained for those crops on the basis of the prevailing cost of cultivation at the time of application.
Under this insurance scheme, it is possible to provide the following additional covers as per requirement while insuring crops.

*Insurance lapses after first harvest for intermittent cropping crops. Where this additional cover is availed, compensation for damage to crops caused by an insured cause is waived. Loss of market is not covered under this.
Acreage covered (minimum per unit)
Only if there is a minimum of ¼ acre or more for each crop, that crop should be insured.
